Middle School

GRADES 6-8

Entering Middle School — S.E.P.
Summmer Empowerment Program

Designed to help elementary school students transition to middle school, this four-week program includes a field trip workshops and recreation.

After School
This program launches Phase 1 of our Continuum of Mentorship. M.E.P. supports students with the knowledge, leadership skills, and decision-making tools to succeed as they transition to middle school while building a strong foundation for them to excel throughout the remainder of their academic career and into adulthood.

The program takes place on site at Brooks & Julian Middle Schools. Students join mentors, junior mentors, and staff for one-on-one & group mentoring, homework help, life-skills workshops, exploration workshops, and recreational activities.

Mentoring Empowerment Program

During School
The goal of S.T.A.R.S. to be a catalyst for minority middle school youth. S.T.A.R.S. provides a safe space where students can build connections, process difficult moments that occur in the classroom, cafeteria and the broader community, while receiving support and affirmation with other middle school students who share similar experiences.

Students come together on campus during lunch or advisory to develop leadership skills while exploring self identity, self empowerment, social awareness and social activism.

Students Taking Action Regarding Success


High School

GRADES 9-12

Designed to help middle school students transition to high school, this six-week program includes multiple field trips, workshops on time management, stress management and study skills as well as financial literacy sessions. Students develop action plans to help them enter high school with confidence. Students receive stipends for participation.

Summer Empowerment Program

After School
This program takes students into Phase 2 of our Continuum of Mentorship. After transitioning to high school, students have the opportunity to support and empower middle school students as junior mentors while still receiving support and empowerment from adult mentors. The training program curriculum is designed to teach individuals how to effectively mentor and empower one another while incorporating social emotional learning practices.

College & Professional

Post-Graduation

YEMBA staff and adult mentors support soon-to-be and recent graduates as they connect their interests and goals with internship opportunities in the community. Our goal is to make sure that each student’s network for support and engagement only grows and strengthens as they transition out of high school.

Career Opportunities
Internships

This program is designed for individuals in college or a professional field. Throughout this training program, the adult mentor in training will be responsible for mentoring a junior mentor as well as middle school mentees, using their life experiences and leadership skills to benefit students walking in similar shoes.
